Martin Gross, Michael Jankowski, André Krouwel, Sigrid Roßteutscher, Jan Philipp Thomeczek and I have received funding from the City of Frankfurt to run a vote advice application for the 2018 mayoral election in Frankfurt — the Wahlkompass Frankfurt.
Oliver Czulo will be presenting joint work with Adam Weyell at the General Online Research Conference in Cologne, February 28–March 2, 2018. We use corpus linguistic methods to study how media frames of extremism change after terrorist attacks. Our analysis relies on the full set of articles on Spiegel Online going back to the year 2000!
I will be presenting joint work with Susumu Shikano at the Annual Conference of the Political Methodology Group of the Political Studies Association in Essex on January 12, 2018. Come join me if you are curious about “Short-term dynamics of political preferences: Candidate valence during electoral campaigns”. In this paper, we employ data from the 2013 Rolling-Cross-Section Panel Study of the Austrian National Election Study (AUTNES) to analyze how perceptions of candidate position and candidate valence shift as the campaign progresses. We find that voters are more likely to update their valence perceptions of the candidates than their ideological perceptions.
Martin Gross and I will be chairing a panel on “Immer noch die Schule der Demokratie? Neue Befunde zur demokratischen Qualität lokaler Politik” at the DVPW-Kongress “Frontiers of Democracy”, which will take place September 25–28, 2018 at the Goethe-University Frankfurt. You can find our call for papers here. The deadline for proposals is January 31, 2018.
